Handling Incoming Beliefs

چکیده
Most logic-based approaches to knowledge and belief change in artificial intelligence assume that when a new piece of information comes up, it should be merely added to the current beliefs or knowledge when this does not lead to inconsistency. This paper addresses situations where this assumption does not hold. The focus is on the construction of Boolean standard-logic knowledge and belief bases in this context. We propose an approach to handle incoming beliefs that can require some formulas reconstruction or a form of preemption to be performed.

Acceptance Through Argumentation - a Preliminary
When an agent receives new pieces of information , these may contradict his previous beliefs. The agent must decide how to solve this contradiction. Most frameworks dealing with the problem of belief revision attach higher priority to incoming information, i.e., they may give up some part of the old beliefs in order to accommodate the new piece of information and keep consistency. In this paper...
متن کاملEffect of Humans on Belief Propagation in Large Heterogeneous Teams
Members of large, heterogeneous teams often need to interact with different kinds of teammates to accomplish their tasks, teammates with dramatically different capabilities to their own. While the role of humans in teams has progressively decreased with the deployment of increasingly intelligent systems, they still have a major role to play. In this chapter, we focus on the role of humans in la...
متن کاملA Belief-Based Approach to Measuring Message Acceptability
We propose a formal framework to support belief revision based on a cognitive model of credibility and trust. In this framework, the acceptance of information coming from a source depends on (i) the agent’s goals and beliefs about the source’s goals, (ii) the credibility, for the agent, of incoming information, and (iii) the agent’s beliefs about the context in which it operates. This makes it ...
متن کامل(Dis)Belief Change and Feed-Back Loop
This paper focuses on the features of belief change in a multi-agent context where agents consider beliefs and disbeliefs. Agents receive messages holding information from other agents and change their belief state accordingly. Agents may refuse to adopt incoming information if it is considered as not reliable. For this, agents maintain a preference relation over other agents embedded in the mu...
متن کاملFuzzy Linguistic Knowledge for Active Queue Management in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks
Mobile ad-hoc network is a network without infrastructure where every node can work as a router. Every node has protocols and services to request and provide services to other nodes with the congestion handling capability. Traditionally, the congestion handling is done through Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). This protocol sends congestion signal (drop incoming packets) when the node’s queu...
